The Spring/Break Art Show Is a Must-See

There are so many exciting art fairs in New York at the moment and it’s hard to figure out which ones to hit and which to miss. Here is one to hit – Spring/Break is taking place on two abandoned floors of the Conde Naste building in Times Square. And it is guaranteed to be worth the time.

Each individual or team has been given an empty office or conference room and told to create. The theme this year is Stranger Comes to Town, which is certainly only applied in the vaguest way possible in most cases. There are 400 different displays here and so many of them are entertaining and exciting.

Much of the displays include interactive media such as the Fall On Your Sword music company’s musical accompaniment to their art and the three minute installation “Continuous Eye Contact” by Bobby Anspach.

This is an event worth your time. Spring/Break Art Show is at 4 Times Square and is open from March 7-12, 11-6pm daily.

FOG Design + Art Fair

The FOG Design + Art took place in San Francisco from January 12-15 with the Gala opening on January 11. It swept viewers off their feet with its focus on art and design. There was a relaxed, small size atmosphere in the Bay Area at the event throughout the week.

The FOG Design+Art Preview Gala which took place on the 11th included vibrant rug patterns made of 200,000 roses that were designed by event planner Stanlee R. Gatti (who also oversaw the Kanye West proposal to Kim Kardashian in 2014). The VIPs who attended the evening included the likes of: former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, Creative Artists Agency co-founder Michael Ovitz , designer Yves Béhar and his wife, art advisor Sabrina Buell, and the artist John Waters.

The Holiday Studio Sale is open at 170 Canady Drive and you can see some of their amazing work here: charlespinckney.com and elizabethbarton.com for examples of work.

Hip Vintage & Handmade opened its doors on December 2. They allow vendors to lease display options from a small shelf or space to a large booth. They will have a new artist showcased every month in their First Friday exhibition. Find more information with: hipvintagehandmade.com.

Inger Loftheim Joins Old Village Paint

paintOld Village Paint – America’s oldest paint and varnish makers since 1816 – has a new, but very well established employee – Inger Loftheim. While Inger Loftheim was just appointed to the position of Chief Marketing Officer, she has actually had a connection to the firm for many, many years. Indeed, she is a sixth generation of her family to work at the business!

Of the appointment, and this strong familial connection to the business, Inger Loftheim said:

“It’s amazing. There’s a lot of pride in it. This business, it’s our name. Through our paint, we deliver a high quality product, because this is the livelihood of our family and that translates into how you deliver it. From generation to generation this business is what has supported our family.”

And as for other members of the existing team at the firm, a similar sense of excitement on the appointment was echoed. President and Owner of Old Village Paint, Laney Landis said that he was: “delighted to welcome Inger to the team, we’ve all been dreaming about this for many years. She is going to be a wonderful asset to Old Village and to our amazing customers.”

Old Village Paint will certainly reap a lot of benefits from the addition of Inger Loftheim to its team.
